CHN - Making Your Case - The Advocate’s Guide to Using American Community Survey Data
For states, counties, congressional districts and other places, down to the zip code and even block level, the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey provides data advocates can use to show the need for child care, affordable housing, income assistance, services for people with disabilities, and much more, with breakdowns for race, ethnicity, language, age, gender, etc. In December, data about the smallest areas will be released, so it’s a good time to learn how to make use of all the information available.
CHN is pleased to bring together experts to learn how this data can help you make your case for programs – how to find the data you need, and examples of how advocates have used the data effectively. Learn too about how the ACS is used by government to distribute funds to needy communities, and about efforts to improve the American Community Survey and protect it from congressional attempts to undermine it.
